Bessonnaz: it’s Been 60 years!
What a day of joy, celebration and memories as Grain of Wheat Switzerland celebrates 60 years at the Bessonnaz house, rich in history and in ministry.
This old building dating back to 1847, was leased, then purchased by Jean André, founder of Grain of Wheat. Through training leaders and holding kids camps, this house has left a mark for Christ on the hearts of thousands of children, youth and adults from all over Europe. To commemorate the heart of Grain of Wheat’s vision to love and welcome the little ones, more than sixty people came together in October. There was entertainment for the children, a chainsaw sculpture, speeches, and a grand tour of the house.
Bessonnaz : A Home For The Nations
Daniel Cretegny, former steward of Bessonnaz house, remembers the arrival of children traumatized by the Lebanese civil war in 1985 : “The first few nights they were here, they had a really hard time getting to sleep. The reason: it was too quiet! Panic, bombs and explosions were a part of their everyday life in Lebanon. Here, they were afraid of the silence. Little by little, they realized that they were surrounded by people who loved them and they were able to relax and feel secure.”
A Seed of Faith
Mr. Maillefer, the former village grocer recalls:“One day I received a letter and a check from a young man. He had come to several camps at Bessonnaz when he was a child and later became a believer. The check was to pay for what he had stolen from my store when he was a youth at camp! Sow a seed of faith in the heart of a child and it will grow. (John Andrew)
