Today, if you were to meet the Amaya family, the first thing that would come to mind is, what a lovely family! But just ask their two boys Jaime and Andrés what life was like when they were 7 and 8 years old. Their mother worked long hours to feed and provide for them. The boys spent most of the day hanging out in an atmosphere of drugs and violence. Their father could usually be found gambling at rooster cockfights. When he came home, his breath smelled like alcohol, which meant one thing…abuse! Both boys knew they needed to find somewhere else to be.
About this time, a school friend invited them to the Grain of Wheat Soccer Club. For Jaime and Andrés this was like heaven! They not only learned soccer skills, but one day at a club meeting, both boys heard Jesus call their name and now they have been born again into His loving family.
It wasn’t long before the entire Ayala family began going to church. Their Dad now has a stable job and would much rather be involved with church activities than hanging out at cockfights or in a bar. When the boys come home from school, their mom is there to care for them. Indeed, today the Ayala’s are a lovely family.
