Does anyone care about destitute children living in the streets of Russia? Just ask Marina, GWI’s local coordinator, and she will tell you that giving kids like this a chance to succeed is her passion. Through her efforts, GWI now has a care center where kids are raised, fed, housed and most importantly, loved. Marina, recounts the moving story of Eva.
«When 3 year old Eva’s eyes and mine first met, it was as if Jesus himself was looking straight through me. She just stood there motionless. I simply could not utter a word, I was so touched by little Eva. The question I read in her eyes was, «Does anyone love me?»
Her mother was addicted to drugs and no one even knew who her father was. As a young mother, she was concerned about her parenting skills. She was in need of a place to live and wanted to make new friends. In her desperation, she called our care center and was warmiy welcomed to move in with Eva.
Within a few days of their arrival, camp was about to begin. It was perfect timing for Eva and her mother who were very excited about coming. Eva loved jumping on the trampoline and playing with the other children. She found such joy as she experienced the magic of the forest and the freshness of the river. The only thing she feared, was that one day she would be abandoned. It wasn’t long before Eva’s mother, in desperate need of drugs, decided she no longer wanted to be responsible for Eva and left.
But God in HIs great compassion, made a way for Eva to stay with us at the care center.». She was surrounded by people who loved and cared deeply for her. Through this, she came to know the great love God has for her and that He will never leave her. This once shy little girl who feared abandonment has been transformed by Jesus’ love into a joyful child who loves to sing and have fun. The best news of all is that Eva will grow up in a wonderful Christian family who are now in the process of adopting her.
